Future sustainability at Bluemoon Projects
Recently we had the privilege of working with the Bluemoon Projects team in Cape Town. Using the Caplor House framework, we facilitated the team to realign, clarify their collective vision, and define clear priorities. They reflected at the end:
“For the Bluemoon team, the week was pivotal. Immersed in daily operations, we often avoided the harder conversations – around sustainability, governance, and accountability. Through thoughtful and compassionate facilitation, Caplor helped us navigate these necessary discussions with honesty and courage, bringing much-needed clarity, alignment, and renewed focus.”
Grounding the strategy in community
We visited Groendal, a township community where Bluemoon Projects is working. Volunteering at Acorn Early Childhood Development Centre and the Lord’s Acre Soup Kitchen, we met extraordinary individuals shaping their community. From Wayne, a former gang member now mentoring youth, to Anne, the fiercely dedicated principal of Acorn ECD (pictured below). These encounters helped ground the discussions about the strategy process, including in lived realities. It reminded us why building hope and dignity matters so much.
Deepening our reflections of Theory U with Sharon from Ubuntu.Lab
While in Cape Town, we also had the joy of reconnecting with Sharon van Schalkwyk, Executive Director of Ubuntu.Lab. Ubuntu.Lab exists to cultivate leadership rooted in Ubuntu. This is a philosophy of interconnectedness and shared humanity. It works with change-makers across Africa.
Sharon has been a long-standing friend and collaborator of Caplor Horizons. We previously supported Ubuntu.Lab with their strategy. Also, Sharon was part of our action learning group about collaboration led by Seamus O’Gorman. This produced two Ripple Papers on Collaboration: Part 1, Part 2
During our meeting, Sharon enabled us to reflect more deeply on Theory U – a change model (see her explaining it below). This has various facets including emphasising the benefits of pausing, listening, and sensing before acting. The “bottom of the U” is a space of stillness where new insights emerge. It’s in this moment of reflection that real transformation can begin.
