The ripple effect: understanding impact, transforming leadership & global horizons

How do we know if we’re making a difference?

Whether we’re reflecting on personal growth, organisational progress, or wider societal change, measuring impact is both essential and complex. It calls for curiosity, clarity, and courage. In this edition, we highlight our own impact, share fresh leadership resources, and provide insights about a strategy process.

Our Ripples of Change

We all reflect on the difference we make. We follow various paths to do this, individually and within our teams, organisations, and society. To assess our impact, we first need clarity on what success looks like. Without this, we have little basis for evaluation. Along the way, we consider internal and external factors that can either slow down or accelerate our progress, always keeping short, medium, and long-term perspectives in mind.

Taking such things into account, we're excited to share our latest Impact Report (April 2024 to March 2025). A snapshot from this is below – Our Year In Numbers.

Our previous Impact Report was a very significant undertaking. We were established in April 2014 and we did a deeper dive linked to our 10-year anniversary. This year we decided to keep the process simple while ensuring it remained meaningful and relevant to our strategy.

In what ways might this prompt you to consider how you assess the difference you are making? Could your approach be renewed? If so, how? Could it be more thorough and robust? Or perhaps simpler and less cumbersome? How could the results be communicated better? And could you engage people more effectively in the process?

Our Essentials of Transforming Leadership

As promised in our previous newsletter, we're delighted to continue sharing our hot off the press updated leadership resources. This time, we're sharing three more ‘Essentials’ focused on:

Global Horizons

We recently facilitated a strategy renewal process with an organisation devoted to a vision of ‘a just world where all cultures thrive together in peace and understanding’. This is EIL/AFS Ireland. It inspires active global citizenship and personal development through intercultural learning and travel. The last session was co-facilitated by our Chair, Laura Adams, and Ian. Laura is pictured here with the CEO Aideen O'Leary.
