Evolving the Caplor House… A new digital resource for deeper personal and team awareness

In this update we are delighted to share some exciting news – the evolution of our Caplor House online tool. This feels like a significant moment for us: the natural progression of a tool that has been transforming how individuals and teams learn, think and act since 2014

The Caplor House – A Reminder

The Caplor House is our flagship leadership development and organisational effectiveness model. Built around the metaphor of four rooms in a house – the ‘Observatory’, ‘Library’, ‘Kitchen’ and ‘Family Room’ – it provides a shared language for learning and offers a rich framework for understanding the different leadership and behavioural preferences that each of us bring.

Rather than fixing us to a 'type', the model celebrates fluidity – inviting people to move between the rooms and develop a fuller range of leadership capacities.

Since it was developed by Ann (Alder) and Geoff (Cox) in 2014, this has very much been a collaborative journey. The model has been enriched over the years by the thinking of our Advisors, and in particular by Clive (Hyland), whose work on the neuroscience dimensions has added considerable depth. We are grateful to all who have contributed to it.

The Caplor House has been used with individuals, teams and organisations across the globe – from grassroots activists and women farmers to charities and businesses – in contexts ranging from induction and team development to conflict resolution, project planning and leadership coaching.

In a world navigating unprecedented complexity, uncertainty and rapid technological change, the capacity for self-awareness, relational intelligence and adaptive leadership matters more than ever.

Our New Digital Resource

Since its origins as a card-based exercise, the Caplor House has continuously evolved. The development of our first online version in 2019 extended its reach significantly, particularly through the Covid-19 pandemic. And we have long wanted to go further – to create something more engaging, more accessible, and better aligned with our current thinking and branding.

We are therefore delighted to share our new Caplor House App – compatible with laptops, mobiles and tablets.

The Caplor House App is free to use, and we warmly encourage you to explore it, share it with colleagues and networks, and use it as a catalyst for deeper conversations.

This new version includes a significantly improved user experience, better mobile compatibility, secure personal logins so your results are saved and easy to access, and, excitingly, a new team feature that allow a whole group's preferences to be mapped and explored together. The Caplor House has always been most powerful in relationship: when a team can see their collective picture, recognise complementary strengths and notice shared blind spots.

We will continue to develop this iteratively, responding to what we learn along the way. If you have thoughts, feedback or questions, we would love to hear from you.

Tech and That

Our development partners on the App are Tech and That, a modern software development agency with significant experience in designing, building, and scaling robust software solutions. We have been fortunate to have their expertise alongside us in this.

At the heart of this relationship is Deven (Thakkar), who has been a trusted Advisor to Caplor Horizons for a number of years. His deep understanding of our work, and his thoughtful approach to technology, has been invaluable. We are very grateful to him, and to the wider Tech and That team, in particular Harry (Broome), for all they have contributed.

On the subject of technology: we recently undertook cyber security training, delivered by Harry and Deven from Tech and That, and found it eye-opening. In an increasingly connected world, understanding the risks – and the steps that can help mitigate them – feels important for any organisation. If this is something you'd like to explore, do get in touch with them directly here: contact@techandthat.com

We are also noticing a real and growing curiosity about AI among the organisations we work with. If this is something you are interested in Tech and That also offer support and training around AI.

“Humans will add value where machines cannot. As we encounter more and more artificial intelligence, real intelligence, real empathy, and real common sense will be scarce. The new jobs will be predicated on knowing how to work with machines, but also on these uniquely human attributes.”

– Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft

Best wishes,
Kemal, Rosie, Lorna and Ian
