In this month's update, we share some significant changes within the Caplor Horizons team, celebrating new beginnings, welcoming new perspectives and reflecting on what these transitions teach us about collaborative leadership. We also share insights from our recent workshop with ACEVO and an opportunity to explore collaborative leadership further in January.
Collaborative Leadership – Practising What We Preach
At Caplor Horizons, collaborative leadership is not just something we advocate for – it is something we practise ourselves. Sharing leadership allows us to draw on different strengths, support one another and build greater resilience. To explore more read our Ripple Paper "Essentials of Shared Leadership."
One benefit is continuity and succession planning. When knowledge, relationships and responsibilities are shared, organisations become less dependent on any one individual and better equipped to navigate change.
This feels relevant as we prepare for some important changes within our own team.
Rosie's Next Chapter
After eight wonderful years with Caplor Horizons, Rosie has decided that the time is right to move on and begin a new chapter. With her wedding approaching in December, she is looking forward to exploring new opportunities and directions, including her creative interests.
In Rosie's own words:
Rosie's final day will be 15th December 2026. We are enormously grateful for everything she has contributed and wish her every happiness and success in this exciting next chapter.
Kemal's Transition
Our Co-Director Kemal will also be moving on from his current role at the end of March 2027, as he looks towards new opportunities that offer greater financial reward and support his longer term ambitions.
Kemal's journey with Caplor Horizons has been special, spanning from client, whilst working at INASP and Paper Boat, to Advisor, staff member and ultimately Co-Director. Throughout this journey, he has brought a deep passion for coaching, connected communities and approaches to self-awareness.
Kemal has made an invaluable contribution to our work and the people we work alongside. He is thoughtful, intuitive, caring and reflective. We are enormously grateful for everything he has brought so far to Caplor Horizons and we are delighted he will return to being one of our Advisors.
In Kemal's own words:
Welcoming Otto
We are delighted to welcome Otto Wye as our new Development Coordinator, bringing fresh energy, creativity and a strong commitment to making a positive difference.
Otto is a recent graduate and he has gained valuable experience facilitating creative workshops and mentoring disadvantaged young people. He has done this through organisations including The Cause and Youth Moves in Bristol. He also founded a small business, developing skills in event management, communications, branding and finance.
Otto is passionate about creating opportunities for young people and shares our commitment to compassion, creativity and collaboration. We are excited about the new perspectives he will bring to Caplor Horizons.
In Otto's own words:
From heroic to collaborative leadership – what does it take?
On 7th October, we partnered with ACEVO to run an online session for UK not-for-profit leaders on moving from heroic to more collaborative ways of leading. ACEVO has a network of over 1,700 civil society CEOs and senior leaders. Through facilitated discussion and reflection, participants explored what this shift means for power, accountability and culture in their own organisations.
We are delighted to continue this conversation at a full-day event with ACEVO on 19th January. Grounded in a feminist and antiracist vision of leadership, it will offer practical tools and honest reflection for leaders committed to doing things differently. To find out more, click here.
To explore these ideas further, read more in our “Essentials of Transforming Leadership” book.
Looking Ahead
Whilst we will miss Rosie and Kemal, we are excited for their next chapters and equally excited to welcome Otto.
Ian and Lorna remain as committed as ever, working alongside our Trustees, Advisors and wider community to build on the strong foundations we have developed together.
We are grateful to everyone who has been part of our journey so far and look forward to the opportunities ahead.
“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing”
– Arundhati Roy
Best wishes,
Otto, Lorna, Ian, Kemal and Rosie
